Aye to that! : From Twitter

After being hurt so much, it's hard to trust that much again. It's hard to open up to people and become vulnerable to that much pain again. Sometimes, we appear to be heartless. But hey, we're only protecting ourselves. Our hearts seem so fragile; we think it might completely break the next time around.

Time passes by and we gradually learn to trust again. Though still secretly scared for the possibility of pain, we become more open and, maybe someday, less fearful.

Getting New Frames (EO)

It was October of last year when I got my fabulous pink frames as an early Christmas gift from my mum.

Close to a year later, they gave out on me. You see, the end piece and the temple (right part) of my eyeglasses decided to part ways one morning. The screw in the hinge/s was intact. It was the little extension hinge (?) after the screw part that separated from the temple. (*unfortunately I wasn't able to take a photo of the damaged frames)

courtesy of readers.com

Is this even helpful? Lol

I went to EO to have it fixed, but unfortunately, they said that it couldn't be repaired since the little extension hinge couldn't be soldered to the temple. Soldering would melt the temple, which was made out of plastic.

I've always preferred plastic frames, but after this incident, I had second thoughts. So anyway, the good part is that it was still under warranty so I availed of it.

They asked for the warranty card and told me to write a complaint letter. They would then send the letter and the damaged frames to their main/head office in Manila to have it assessed. Eighteen days later, I received a text message and a call saying that my eyeglasses were ready for pick-up.

The next day, I went to pick it up and I was glad to know that I was able to get the warranty. They replaced my frames, but this time, they gave me a red one, since there were no more pink ones available.

Well, pink frames, it had been a good year. I enjoyed being all girly with you. But this time, these red frames call for fierceness. Haha. Okay, I'm starting to get sentimental.

I know they're just eyeglasses, but when you rely on them for dear life like I do, they're more than just that. I'm trying to get used to having such a strong-colored visual addition to my face, but I'm pretty sure I can rock these new red frames.

Thank you to Executive Optical - Ayala branch for being of such kind assistance to me, including when I had to purchase contact lenses whilst my eyeglasses were to be shipped off.

A Series of Unfortunate Car Accidents

Do I have a sign that says, "Bump me"?

Really.
Only a year since I got my license and I've already been in four major car-related accidents. Emphasize on the 'major' since I will exclude the occasional jeepney-closing-in-on-me-that-my-side-mirror-gets-folded incidents, yea.

First one was probably just a week or two after I got my license. I accompanied my aunt and uncle to the hospital for a check-up. I left the car (Crosswind) in the parking lot.
There was this Vios that refused to start. The owner called a towing company to tow her car. Unfortunately, the hook that was attached to the car broke, and guess what was behind it? Yes, my poor car. I was paged from the hospital and I rushed to the parking lot because I thought my car was blocking the way. Imagine how shocked I was when I saw the BIG dent on the right passenger doors.

I was shocked and I didn't know what to do. I called my mum, because it is her car, but she was unreachable. I called my dad instead and he gave me instructions.  Fortunately, my aunt and uncle were there to accompany me. We prepared the necessary documents and went to the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) office. In the end, the towing company shouldered the expenses to have my car fixed.

I can't remember when the second one happened. It was most probably between January to March of this year. This time, it was my boyfriend's car. We  had just halted to a stop light at an intersection near school. We were talking, when suddenly this Starex rammed into the back of the car!

We got out of the car and saw what a wreck his car had become. The sad part was that we also rammed into another car, an SUV (I can't remember if it was a Montero or a Fortuner). My boyfriend called his dad. I didn't want to leave him but he told me to go since I had class then. With my jaw and my knee aching, I went to class. Later on, he told me that the Starex had lost its brakes.

Third one was May 2013. I went to Lapu-Lapu because I was tasked to bring my sister and her friends to a beach resort during their outing. Before going to the resort, one of the stops was PTT Gas Station across Gaisano Grand Mall Mactan because they bought food somewhere near there. I was, once again, harmlessly parking at the back part of the gas station, near its convenience store, when this Vios, again, recklessly backed up to the car. It was like the driver wasn't even looking!

Having the right passenger doors damaged AGAIN, I was devastated. I called my mum and I received a scolding. She told me to get the Vios driver's information and to go home right away after I drop off my sister since I was getting into a lot of accidents already. The driver turned out to be a foreigner. He agreed to meet me the following day to pay for damages after I get an estimate of how much it would cost to fix it.

The fourth one, and hopefully my last, happened just last Friday. This time, it was closer to home. First pane below will show you where I and the jeepney were. We were running at approximately the same speed, when the white 62C jeepney suddenly turned left because of another jeepney that was stopping in front of it.

The front right side of my car was damaged, specifically misaligned signal light and slightly cracked bumper. The more unfortunate part of it was that the jeepney did not stop to talk about the accident. It just drove on. I went home and talked to my dad. He was so mad because of the hit-and-run incident. He called his policeman friend and reported the incident. I talked to him, gave him the jeepney's plate number, and he said that they would put an alert for that jeepney.

~
Now, friends, I am not proud of the accidents I've been involved in. It has gotten me thinking about my driving, but recalling everything (except case 2), I can't say it was my fault.  I feel sorry for my mum and her car, and sometimes I think about not driving anymore. However, if I stop driving, all the driving lessons will be put to waste. I guess I just am unlucky.

So, my driver friends, please be careful. Follow traffic rules diligently, and put your seatbelt on. Also, just give way to public utility vehicles because the drivers will just scratch their heads or run if they do bump you.

Keep safe, everyone!

Review: Voice Overload

All hail, chocolate lovers!

This Voice Overload is a "creamy choco sandwich with rich choco coating", so it says in the packaging. Well basically it's chocolate on chocolate on chocolate. Chocolate crackers with chocolate filling coated with more chocolate!

I expected it to be as chocolate-y as ever, but when I took a bite, I was impressed. It doesn't have that very strong über-chocolate taste. For something that looks and says that it's "overloaded" on chocolate, it tastes really good. It doesn't have a nasty aftertaste, too. The sandwich itself is quite thin, but I guess that's how they did it so that it won't be overdone. It has just the right amount of chocolate. :)

Chocolate lovers will ♥ this, and those who aren't as fond of chocolate will enjoy it as well. I highly recommend this to everyone.

OOTD: Marketing Convention

It's that time of the year again. Haha.

This is the look I wore to day two of the event.

Photo credits to my mum. I didn't know what she was up to though, why she made me bring that rose in the photo.

I didn't want to be so formal, so I decided against the blazer. I opted for an orange button-down top instead. I also wore a classic black peplum skirt and a black suede wedge shoes. (More details on the top and the skirt here.)

For accessories, I wore a silver cross necklace, which is my mum's, and a simple watch with blue straps.

Orange button-down top - Forever21
Black peplum skirt - South Shores
Black suede wedge shoes - Janylin
White structured bag - Michael Kors
Watch - XOXO

Also, I had my hair in a basic rope braid.

Watch out for a post all about hairstyles you can do on short hair (as in pixie cuts and the like!), which includes this awesome braid. :D

OOTD: Acquaintance Party 2013

Last July 19, Friday, we had our acquaintance party. It was the first one I attended since I transferred to my current school, so I was excited.

with my twinnie, Danielle Iris :)

with Phem
(cape uneven because of my bag)

And yet again, I have no full outfit shot. Haha. These photos are the most decent photos of my outfit that night. Pardon me. T_T

Anyway, I didn't want to spend a lot on my outfit so almost everything I had on is my mum's. The dress, necklace, booties, and bag are hers. I only spent for my belt and my headband. O diba? :D

Photos of similar items:

A week before the theme for the party (Black and White) was announced, I saw my mum wearing her cape dress. After I knew the theme, I instantly knew that was what I was going to wear. Haha. I cinched the waist with a belt since it was waaay loose on me.

During the disco part of the program, I put the cape of my dress above my shoulders so it would be more comfortable.

The above photo is similar to the shoes I actually wore. The heel is the same, and it was also lace-up, although they weren't of suede material.

I couldn't find a photo similar to the bag I had, but it was a leather bag of ecru shade.

Shoes - Gibi
Bag - Angels Collection
Necklace - ForMe
Headband and belt - SM Accessories
Watch - Anne Klein

I can't give other details on the dress since I don't know where my mum bought it and there was no tag on the dress itself. But I'm sure there are similar cape dresses available in your local boutiques. :)

Moving on to makeup.
It looks like I haven't done much, because yes, I actually didn't. I have yet to practice putting on much, much makeup that looks good in photos.

Base:
Myra Moisturizer
Revlon Colorstay Aqua Mineral Makeup

And, of course, let's not forget the nails! :D

I decided against black on an early thought, but as I was about to paint them, I decided to go with it anyway. But, being Demi Dawn, there has to be a pop of wierdness. So here they are.

Review: Wraps

Enticed yet?

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Grilled Chicken Wrap brought to us by a student enterprise from the University of San Carlos called Wraps.

I was intrigued by their neat stall so I decided to check it out.

It turned out to be one of the best decisions I made, because these wraps are heaven!

Made up of sumptuous grilled chicken, a variety of vegetables, plus (will you believe this?) mangoes (!!) all wrapped in a soft yet crunchy tortilla wrap, these babies will surely make you come back for more.

I actually forgot the price of one grilled chicken wrap since I always order their combo, which is one order of the wrap plus a large iced tea. All that yummy AND healthy goodness only for P75. :D

Besides their iced tea, they also have Four Seasons as well as Mountain Dew and Mug Root beer.

Keep up the good work, people from Wraps!
Perhaps a bigger version of your original grilled chicken wrap or more varieties in the near future? Methinks. ;D

So what are you waiting for? Visit them at the University of San Carlos - Downtown Campus, under Kolk's Nook. They are open from Monday to Friday, 9am - 6pm.

~
Fun (weird?) fact:
I collect the Wraps sticker that comes with the chicken wrap whenever I order one, just because. Not much of a fangirl, no not really. :)))

P.S. I am in no way affiliated with this enterprise. I'm just an avid fan, really. :)

TBT

It's the first time I'll be joining the bandwagon of Throwback Thursdays. So here goes. :)

Three photos in one go!
I found some old photos in a usb and decided to put three of them together. This is currently my cover photo in Facebook. :D

First photo:
Early morning vanity with my sister! Teehee. ^_^
Wavy hair, thanks to sleeping on braids. Neat, threaded eyebrows then.

Second photo:
A random night when I had nothing to do and I decided to just go dress-up. So I put on some make-up (as if it's even visible) and obviously I curled my hair. I used Curlformers, which I bought from an online store in Facebook. Turned out alright, didn't it? :D
Of course, I took some photos. Haha. This was also when I didn't groom my eyebrows yet. I'm not sure if it's visible in the photo, but my eyebrows are unruly. Moving on..

Third photo:
We came from a school program of my sister's, and the floral headband was part of her costume. I thought it was so kawaii so I had her take a picture of me with it. :D
I had already learned to fill in my eyebrows by this time. Also, I still had my old eyeglasses frames. And, no more faux curly hair in this pic. Haha!

~
And that's it for my Throwback Thursday. Thanks for reading! ^_^

Almost Hold-up

Realized I'm still camera-shy so I'm going to write about it instead.

From Escario, I took a 14D to Ayala. It stopped at the jeepney terminal so I decided to ride a 62B/C instead of walking to where the 13C were. And besides, it was drizzling. So I lined up while waiting for a jeepney.

A while later, the jeepney arrived and we started filing in. There were two guys, one across (A) and one who was supposed to sit beside me (B). Luckily, I guess, the man who was already seated to my left (M) moved closer so B wasn't able to sit beside me. Instead, he was seated a person away to my left. Even before the jeepney left the terminal, B was acting all drowsy, leaning on his arm closing in on Mister M. Mister M immediately noticed something was creepy with the guy so when the jeepney started to go, he moved forward from his seat. This exposed me to B. I noticed A because he was trying to keep eye contact with B without being too noticeable. I wanted to go down from the jeep (BIR), but I was scared that maybe they'd go down as well and go after me instead. So I decided to go down somewhere with more light and more people. I picked Shell in Banilad. However, when the jeepney went up the flyover (before Shell, after BIR), traffic was kind of heavy and I just knew that I wouldn't be able to reach Shell. I hurriedly paid my fare just as A mini-nodded, signaling B to do whatever. Immediately, I stood up and went to the back of the jeep. The other passengers were worried because they thought I was out of my mind. They thought I was going to jump. They repeatedly told me to go back to my seat and to get off only after we were off the flyover. At that time, I didn't care what they or the people from the other vehicles thought. I didn't want to go back inside. I begged them not to let me go back inside and I promised I wasn't going to jump. Took a while to convince them, and I hoped there wasn't any accomplice at the back part of the jeep. So after the flyover, I went down and thankfully, the snatchers didn't follow. The other passengers were left wondering what on earth happened to me, but I do hope they felt something was up and I really wish they are safe. I was so scared, I wanted to be home immediately. I considered getting a cab but none was vacant. I rode a 13C instead and told the passengers there what happened to me. I don't normally chat with strangers but I was damn scared.

I got home safe, thank God.

Ever since I experienced a hold-up in a 13C jeepney seven months ago, I became more cautious. Some people would call me praning most times because I think I get too suspicious about things and people, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Note:
These guys were ordinary-looking people. One was dressed in a normal t-shirt, one was in a jersey. They were, I think, in their late 20s. They weren't bringing any bag. B was bringing a face towel. They must've done drugs or something, but I swear they looked normal.

Review: Secret Smooth Effects Antiperspirant/Deodorant

I'm one of those who's had troubles with sweaty underarms and white deo stains on the shirt. I've tried various deodorants and of different forms, from solids, creams, roll-ons, sprays. Some were okay, but none was close to perfection as this.

I found this in the Savemore Supermarket in JCentre Mall about two months ago. I was looking for the ordinary Secret Invisible Solid deo, as it was my very first deodorant and I was getting disappointed with the Dove one I was using then. There was none, unfortunately, and this Secret Smooth Effects was the only one under the Secret brand there. Well secretly I decided to  give it a try because it was pink. Tsk tsk. Naughty, naughty me. But anyway, I'm glad I did because it's perfect!

Besides being pink, I bought it because I was intrigued with the "Conditioning Solid" and "Smooth Powder" part of the label. I know the "Shave Less Often" is more intriguing, but the ones in the store didn't have that tag on, so yeah. Moving on..

It is indeed of a different consistency than the other ones I've tried under the Secret brand. The Invisible Solid deo is, well, solid while the Invisible Gel/Platinum Protection is more wet or liquid-y. Secret Smooth Effects is just of the right consistency and it dries or is absorbed faster than the other deodorants do. Because of that, plus if you're extra careful, it leaves no white deo stain marks on your clothing. The scent is also not overpowering at all. I've only tried this one so I can't really say the same for the other scents. At 73 grams, it is quite small, but one or two clicks is enough for an underarm so it will be able to last for some time. As for the shaving less often, I guess it'll work for the less-hairy ladies? I can't say I've used it long enough to comment on this part. In Cebu, it's really hard to find this deodorant. I haven't found it elsewhere and I have yet to return to JCentre to see if it's still there. I heard they discontinued this product and that they renamed it Outlast & Olay, but until I see it again, I don't know for sure.

I most definitely recommend this product to everyone. I sure hope they didn't discontinue it, else I'll be going back to their Invisible Solid one.

Summ-ah Classes ~just random updates

I spend my summer 2013 in school.

Subject A
8.30 is too early T__T
Well not really. But for me it is! And I have trouble getting up in the morning. I have three weeks to get back on track in this subject, else it's another tuna for me. TT_TT

Subject B
Quite easy. Teacher's chill but not to be taken lightly.

Subject C
OMG. Most stressful subject. Case studies almost everyday! I almost gave up on this, decided it was easier to just quit (thus this post), but my friends convinced me otherwise. So now here I am stressing the heck out of my poor brains and body. I'm practically drained.

So basically, after this term, I am going to spend the remaining days of summer vacation on my bed SLEEPING! .. Just kidding. But really, I'm going to get a damn good rest.

Other random stuff
May 13 - first time I'm going to be exercising my right to suffrage
May 22 - end of classes (come quick!)
May 25 - my stepbrother's getting married!

Related to a previous post:
I have been going to school with less makeup on. It started with having no time in the morning to fill in my eyebrows, and then slowly, I simply didn't bother doing so during the day. It feels weird because eyebrows define one's face and this is especially true for me since I wear eyeglasses.
Will I stop filling in my eyebrows? .. Well no. But, for school, maybe I'll do it less. And especially if I have no time. :D
I have also been wearing just tinted lip balm instead of wearing lip balm + lipstick everyday. Feels lighter. I guess this is a step towards being confident in less makeup. :)

I will have to end this here because I need to get some sleep. I will leave you all, myself included, with this. For inspiration. :)

Nail Polisheses (Review: Bobbie and Caronia)

Disclaimers:
First, I don't own a whole lot of nail polish.
Second, I only have mostly Bobbie and Caronia (which I'm going to talk about here).
----------------------------------

Caronia
I like Caronia's range of colors because they offer such vibrant, bright colors that make me happy when I see them. The consistency of their nail polish is also thick so I need not worry about not getting the color I want or from what is seen in the bottle.
Most of all, I've been looking for the color Taupe from all over and I was super happy when I found it with Caronia. It's one of my all-time favorite nail polish colors and I never fail to wear it at least once a month. ^_^

Bobbie
I like the quality of Bobbie nail polish. I think that's the reason why their brushes don't get clumped up and mess the polish. It glides on easily during application and their bottles are really cute too.
I especially like their Italian Nude color because it is the right shade of pink that looks healthy and it doesn't look overly done. It is professional-looking and perfect for the office, where you don't want to be flashy with bright nail colors.
I have tried their Magnet-ficent Polish line but I found it to be such a hassle. The magnet does work but you need to stick it really close to your nails. It looked promising but I don't think I'll be trying it again.

Caronia vs. Bobbie - Touch of Beige
This is the only color that I have in both brands. I don't buy a similar color in both brands because I don't see the point. I prefer variety, yes. However, this one intrigued me because although they said the same color, they looked totally different.

*images taken from Google

Bobbie's has a weird color. So totally not beige. It has an inclination to green. And though it offers a nice finish and the color (whatever it is) is nice, I think Bobbie should change its name. It's misleading, you know.
Caronia's, on the other hand, is the closer color to beige. I think it has an inclination to orange (?). Caronia also carry the color Touch of Tan, which a similar color to this but darker. I prefer this one though. It's flattering to my skin tone. :)
(*EDIT: This color that Bobbie has is actually on the Beige pantone. But I guess the beige we're used to is the one that Caronia has. Moving on..)

Other stuff
I hate using acetone when taking off my nail polish. I used to do this when I was younger because it was what everyone used. Later on, I realized it sucked the life out of my nails, so I permanently switched to nail polish remover. It took a while to find a good one, because the other were too mild I almost use half a bottle to remove nail polish from one hand. -_-

Anyway, what I use now is Caronia's Nail Polish Remover. It's definitely not as strong as acetone, but it does its job. And it does so without making your nails look dead! (thank goodness!) The smell is tolerable as well (not too strong). It comes in a violet color but it does not leave color stains on your nails, fingers, or clothes.
One of my recent purchases is the Caronia Nail Hardener and Base Coat. I've been using colorless/clear nail polish as base coat but I finally decided to have a proper base coat to protect my nails. The nail hardener part sold me, actually. :D

Unfortunately, I don't get access to a wide range of nail polish colors from the stores I go to. That's one reason why I don't have a lot. For example, Caronia also carries the color Italian Nude but I haven't seen it yet.

Also, some of my nail polish have kind of dried out in their bottles. They're not completely dry as in stiff-in-their-brushes dry, but they don't apply as smoothly as before anymore. I think this has something to do with storage and frequency of use. They probably haven't been stored properly in the store before I bought them (I have a decent place of storage for them), and/or maybe because they haven't been used much. I have had this problem since like forever and I've been trying to find a way to avoid or fix this. So if you know any solution, please feel free to comment below or to send me a message.

I hope you found this post informative or at least enjoyed reading about these brands.

Share the nail polish love!

xoxo demi ♥

Chili Pepper Vans

Okay so my mum finally bought her coveted red suede-ish Skch +3 wedge sneakers. And whilst in the store, she asked me what I wanted. I basically lack sandals as compared to shoes and so I pointed to the wedge sandals on the photo in the store. Well, she said no. She said it had to be something I could and would use to school everyday. -_-

Moving on, I told her I wanted Vans. I forgot there was a Vans store in Ayala so I brought her to Complex. I tried on like 5 pairs of Keds but seriously, there was nothing that caught my eye and made me want to die with excitement. I wanted the classic red one because I've been wanting a pair of red shoes for a while (practically because I never had one). There was no red pair in my size. Boohoo. So after all the effort Kuya Salesman did to fetch me the 5 pairs, I asked him where I could possibly buy Vans in Ayala. He directed me to the Vans outlet just across where we were but on the lower floor. I said sorry and thanked him.

I told my mum I was buying a red pair. It was either that or nothing for today. So I went to Vans, hoping that there was a red pair because shopping and shoes and shopping for shoes thrilled me. When I went in, I realized that I forgot how Vans shoes had awesome designs. I was heartbroken. There was my red pair waiting for me (the size on display was my size too), but then there were others. :(((
There were a lot of really kawaii Hello Kitty shoes and another one with different-colored shoelace holes, among so many others. I was heartbroken because suddenly my red shoes didn't appeal as much anymore. I wanted them all.

These were the only all-red shoes they had in the store. It's the authentic slim hiker Vans in Chili Pepper.

I don't even like the laces! I will change them, yeah. Or completely ditch laces.
They're not even as vibrant red as the classic red ones. :(

I'm sad. But I'll try to be happy. I've got new shoes at least. Basta next time I'll buy the Hello Kitty ones. Or the more colorful ones. Or the one with galaxy prints. Oh well. I've got a long way to goooo.

Eyeglasses > contacts

This Tuesday, one of the nose pads from my eyeglasses decided it wanted out of my life .. just kidding .. well, it broke. I was in the middle of class and suddenly I was practically blind. Luckily, it was already past ten in the morning when we got dismissed from that class so I immediately went to the mall to have it fixed. Luck run out so quickly because when I arrived at the optical store, the lady told me to go back in the afternoon because their technician wasn't available till then. I was soo upset because I only had an hour break from classes, which I spent going to the optical store, only to be turned down. I knew I couldn't go back to school without my glasses on, else I'd be squinting my eyes just to see everything and everyone, and I didn't want my one hour break to be put to waste, so I purchased a pair of clear contact lenses.

*image taken from Google
Reuniting with contact lenses again after many years was okay, but it was weird being without eyeglasses. I went to school and became busy the rest of the day that I forgot to go back to have my eyeglasses fixed. I came back to the optical store the next day but then ironically their technician was on break again and I had to wait for an hour. I was really tired so I just paid for it and decided to get it back the following day.

Anyhoo, FF to today. So I was really happy I got my specs back. But then, I decided it'd be my last day to wear contact lens (supposedly 4th day) since I'd be playing badminton with my friends. I put it on but then suddenly, my eyes felt itchy. I put in some eye drops, then it was okay. After a while, I realized it felt weird. I wondered if I had my contacts reversed, i.e. left on right eye, right on left eye. So I took them out and exchanged their places. It felt even weirder so I decided to exchange them again. This time, when I put one on my left eye, it itched. It itched so bad even eye drops couldn't relieve it. So I took it out and decided to stick with my glasses. I played badminton with my eyeglasses and they didn't fall off. Yay! ^_^

So anyway, I realized that I love my eyeglasses more than contact lenses. Before, I sort of wished that I wore contact lenses so that it wouldn't hide my eyes and that, if I wore eye makeup, it'd be noticeable. But as time passed, I learned to love my eyeglasses and I accepted the fact that I will be wearing eyeglasses for a very long time. I know that some people find wearing eyeglasses annoying, and I'll admit that I've had that phase for a while. However, wearing glasses doesn't have to be a hassle. There are plenty of frames that are available which will suit any face shape and preference. There are also many features available, such as polarized lenses and anti-fog, so eyeglasses-wearers don't have to worry about the sun, and those hot beverages or soups.

The heat just got to me.

SUMMER!
And Cebu heat is just crazy!

March 22 - I finally did it. I was able to bundle up the guts and have my hair cut. Now, it wasn't just another trim. It was a totally new hairstyle.

Two weeks preceding that day, I was already planning and anticipating having my hair cut. You see, it's been getting really hot and it was becoming tiring putting up my hair all the time. But also because I'm quite the adventurous girl. I like trying new things, extremes even. Hmm.. I'm thinking this'll make a good blog post. Soon, yes.

~
While waiting for the hairdresser..
Friend: Dem, sure najud ka ani?
Me: Oo.
Friend: Wa ka nahadlok?
Me: Wa man.
( Friend: Dem, are you sure about this?
Me: Yeah.
Friend: Aren't you afraid?
Me: No. )
~

I rarely wear my hair up in school since I am quite conscious about my square/angular, or Lego as I'd like to call it,  face. I only do so on extremely hot days. If I do tie it, I always do a low side ponytail. However, during the final weeks of the semester, I prepped myself into this whole new look by wearing my hair in a bun, which I only do at home.

The Hairstyle

I wanted to go drastic. I realized the summer time would be a great opportunity to rock a very short hairstyle with all the heat going on. I also would see a few people from school since summer classes only had few students, so it'll allow some of my hair to grow back in time for June.

I already knew it was going to be a short SHORT hairstyle, so the next issue is what kind. I stumbled upon some pictures of short hairstyles before (see some here), but this one really struck me.

pixie cut
A pixie cut came to mind when I thought of drastic short hairstyles. Well seeing a lot of Emma Watson in Facebook contributed as well. But anyway, I thought that if only I didn't have such an angular face, maybe I have had my hair cut like this ages ago. And so yet again we face the Lego issue.

Fortunately, being the adventurous me, I battled my insecure self and fought for the fact that I, too, can rock a pixie cut. \m/
So my search began. Well at least for short hairstyles that would somehow match my Lego face. These were what I found, and they just made me happy really.

The Salon

Bench Fix wasn't my first choice. As you may have read in my previous post, I usually go to David's Salon (in Country Mall). But since the hairstylist, who usually does my hair had transferred to Manila, I had been reluctant to having my hair cut. So anyway, my mum recommended Bench Fix. She said their hairstylists always get it right, and so on. And because Google is awesome, I researched about their branches here in Cebu. I also read comments about people's experiences in the salon. I noticed that the most repeated comment was about the bad service they had. Nonetheless, I decided to go with it and hoped for the best.

The Experience

I came in at noon. I was the first at the waiting list. I thought, well it wasn't so bad. I sat and I waited. I scanned through some magazines and then this guy came in. I overheard that he was second on the waiting list, so it was good so far. About fifteen or twenty minutes passed and suddenly two men simultaneously came in and were told to go inside. I was like, "Hmm okay maybe they had reservations or something." The guy, who was supposed to be second on the waiting list, went to the front desk then he was ushered to go inside. That was when I said, "WTF?!" Another ten minutes maybe, more people started coming in. I worried that maybe the woman put my name aside so I went over to the front desk as well and asked when I was coming in next. She assured me I was going next. Ten or fifteen minutes later, I was finally called in.

I was told to sit and wait. After some time, I was called for shampooing. I have to say the products they used were quite good. Then after that, I had to wait quite a long time before the hairstylist/hairdresser came. I showed him the last three photos from above, and off the scissors went.

The Result

Here are some pictures that I took some five or six hours after I had my hair cut.

"I'm a Dove girl, and I love it!"

I have actually put on quite a ridiculous amount of hair wax into my hair because I have issues of the shorter ends weirdly sticking out. Obviously, that didn't help much. Right now, I've decided to leave it alone, but it gets dry so I put on three pumps of hair serum when it's damp.

The Verdict

At first, I didn't really like it, and I couldn't understand why the hairstylist cut it REALLY effin short. I mean, I wanted it to be short, yes, but take a look at the (inspiration) pictures I showed and you can see it really does not look like it. My hair was cut way too short. Fortunately, my friends and my family showed support and that's all I needed, really, to feel confident about it. I didn't receive any bad comments about my hair so far, except for the teasing I get once in a while from my boyfriend and my granny that I look like a boy.
"Well, yes dears, I do have an angular face and short hair, but I wear headbands and lipstick, so that makes me a girl still. Haha."
Wait until my hair grows a bit longer, and it'll be sensational. :p

As for the salon experience, it wasn't awful, but it wasn't that good either. I don't think I'm going back to Bench Fix, if that's what you're wondering. It did cost a lot (250 pesos) considering their customer service.  Charged to experience.

That's it for my drastic hairstyle change. I hope you had fun reading about my experiences, and hope it also gave you some insights about being confident. Till next time! ;*
